History of the Sisseton Area Community Foundation:

The Sisseton Area Community Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2002 to serve donors and a broad range of charitable purposes in Sisseton and the surrounding communities.

It is a permanent, growing endowment built by gifts from individuals, organizations and businesses.  Contributions to the Sisseton Area Community Foundation are placed on deposit with the South Dakota Community Foundation for investing.  The foundation distributes its earnings to worthy projects throughout the Sisseton area.

How did the Sisseton Area Community Foundation get started?

During the summer of 2002, a challenge grant was announced to the Sisseton area.  Through a campaign to raise $75,000, an additional $25,000 was received from the South Dakota Community Foundation.  The total value of the Sisseton Area Foundation will be over $100,000.  And it will continue to build from there!

Is this a private foundation?

No.  The foundation is defined as a 'community foundation" because it will be made up of donations from the entire Sisseton Area.

Who is responsible for the Foundations activities?

Funds donated to the Sisseton Area Community Foundation are invested by the South Dakota Community Foundation.  The interest from that money will be distributed in the Sisseton are to charitable, civic, religious and educational causes and projects.  Coordinating the foundation's activities is a local volunteer Board of Directors.
