Who We Are
While relatively new, the South Dakota Insurance Alliance is an active participant in
legislative and educational efforts in South Dakota for the property and casualty
insurance industry. This brief outline describes the organizational purpose of the
Alliance. The Alliance certainly encourages companies that do business in South Dakota or
related organizations that follow property and casualty issues in the state to evaluate
Alliance membership. For a very modest annual fee, you improve your information and have
access to the resources and membership of this group.
History
In the spring of 1991, an assortment of insurance companies doing business in South Dakota
felt a need to form a new organization that would represent their interests and also be a
clearing house for legislative information and educational activities. The original
founders were both stock and mutual, both large and small, and these characteristics are
essentially the same today. While diverse in characteristics, the Alliance programs became
forums to air and discuss many of today's topics confronting the property and casualty
industry, at the state, regional, and national level. The Alliance is an incorporated,
nonprofit organization domiciled and regulated by the State of South Dakota.
Purpose
The primary purposes of the Alliances can be summarized as follows:
To encourage, develop and maintain communication between insurance companies,
associations and other related insurance organizations.
To give publicity and support to legislative matters that benefits the Alliance
members and the insuring public. A lobbyist attends legislative sessions and the Alliance
publishes a weekly status report on all property and casualty insurance related bills.
To conduct or sponsor educational events that benefit Alliance members, the insuring
public, and organizations similar to the Alliance.
