I grew up in South Dakota, and have lived in the northeast part of the state most of my life. My grandmother was painting yet when I was quite small, so I developed an interest in art from her. However, I graduated from South Dakota State University with a BS degree in Nursing, married and had two children. I eventually quit nursing when I became involved in dairy and grain farming with my husband, I did very little painting between raising the children, and helping on the farm! Eventually I took a short watercolor class and with encouragement from my family, I’ve again gotten involved in painting and really enjoy it! On my own, I’ve studied design, pigment characteristics, and color mixing. I’ve also taken a few workshops to learn more about art, and watercolor painting in particular. A few years ago we switched from dairy to raising sheep so I have a little more time for painting! Now I have the privilege of painting with my oldest granddaughter!

Recent Happenings

It has been a busy summer and autumn! The wet fall has made it much more difficult to finish up outside chores and get the crops harvested. The garden had a bumper crop - or at least I felt that way trying to get it all taken care of! I still have lots of squash, carrots, watermelon, and apples in storage that will eventually need processing. I was able to do some painting most of the summer - less this fall!
Our art group is now meeting Wednesday mornings at The Dragonfly Gallery and Studio in Sisseton, SD. on Hwy 10. It is two stores west of Pamida. The Gallery is open all day Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings. The Gallery telephone is 605-698-4766. Several of my framed paintings are available for sale, Other local artists are represented also. If you are in the area stop by for a visit and enjoy the local artwork! See you there!
