Hippen's Steakhouse, Lanes, and Lounge is located on land that was
part of a large slough when the town of Sisseton was organized in
1892. In 1905 a group of businessmen, including Tom Peever,
bought the land and organized the Roberts County Fair Association
with fairs being held each summer, A grandstand and a one-half
mile race track was built. Horse races were held and sulky
races were especially popular. The fair and the races ended
when the association filed for bankruptcy. The land was idle
until Carl Graverson bought lots in 1940. He sold lots for
both residential and business development. A group of Sisseton
businessmen bought lots in 1962 and built an eight lane bowling
alley. The lounge was added in 1970. Stanley and Yvonne
Hippen, the present owners, bought Lakeland Lanes in 1977. The
steakhouse was added in 1994. |
